Festival of Quilts - I have Won My 1st Major Prize! (updated)

"Little Thin Blue Line" (30x30cm / 12"x12")

Hello all, can I just share with you that I have won my first major prize in a quilt show! 1st prize for my miniature quilt here at the Festival of Quilts in England. I'm so proud , not the least because art quilt + miniature quilt normally are two separate things. Miniature quilts is traditionally just that: Traditional.

Update: Getting my prize on stage from Margaret Walker of City & Guilds (thanks Sandy)

"Another Thin Blue Line" (120x120cm)

On top of that I've got a Judges Choice for my Art Quilt - my feet are not quite touching the ground ;O)

As it happens, I got this by Lisbeth Borggreen, a fellow Dane, whom I happen to know, but of course she didn't know that when she gave me the prize. As she said last night, it must be our shared sense of Scandinavian taste that applied.

Sorry to make this so short for now - am very keen to get over to the exhibition, and will update later. Thanks also to all those of you who have complained about my lack of blogging lately - I promise to blog more in future ;O)

i enjoyed your art at the FOQ this summer ( my first time, wow...i was ready for it! ) and photographed both pieces before i saw they won awards. I enjoy their simple clean shapes and lines and the exceptional workmanship.
I read in one of your post about a program for mac, blogo i think, the link did not work and i would really like to try it, i get so frustrated with blogging, although i am fairly new to it i tried everything....i never get it to come the way i want it even at the simplest stage....Thank you and congratulations on you achievement, from italy Roberta

Mai-Britt Axelsen said...

Thanks Roberta, yes it is indeed worth going to FOQ, I have been every year. Also thanks for the kind words about my work.

The link to blogo is now working, thanks for pointing out the mistake to me. I have now used up my 21 days free trial - and although it's not perfect, I have decided to buy a subscribtion.

Wow. The Universe does strange things sometimes. Just last night, I was flipping through an old edition of Quiltmania magazine and came across this quilt. I wondered how I had missed it the first time as I found it very inspiring and even marked the page to look at it later.

I've been following Gerdiary for quite some time (more than a year); but for some reason, I decided to look at who she has on her blogroll today and found you! *laughs*

Thanks so much for inspiring us all with this beautiful quilt.

And congratulations!

Mai-Britt Axelsen said...

Thanks for the complement and a lovely story....... It's amazing how we sometimes come across each other!!

I sometimes still have to pinch myself :O)

I too follow gerdiary, and now I follow you too.
